Concrete structures and factures made with the use of glass scraps | “Concrete and its Friends” project
The aim of the material combination experiments is to move from grainy, pebbly concrete to clear glass. Colored glass scraps were used as base material to filter the pebbleness of concrete, letting the cement paste pass between them. By controlling the size and density of the glass granules added to the concrete, grainy glass surface deformities looking like “wounds” were created as well as fine patterns from the colored glass pieces. When casting concrete in the negative glass form of the block, the glass simultaneously held the concrete together and burst while the concrete was hardening. The resulting veily cracks and clam fractures gave the objects a special aesthetic value.
