An object demonstrating abstraction processes |”Be STEAM!” project
Prior to the preparation of the PUFFY BALLOON, the students do presentations using ICT tools in informatics class. The presentations demonstrate striped, spotted, spiral patterns from the world of nature, downloaded from the web. The students will creatively redesign these drawings, and use them to decorate the balloons. In the maths class they learn about the basics of geometry and spatial forms. During the workshop, they make pyramids and octahedrons.
After blowing the patterned balloons into spatial grids they examine the abstraction processes. The elastic forms created with directed distortion are cast with pigment-colored gypsum, and then, in an associative game, the plastics are given various attributes and qualities by the students.
