Homopolar engine driven carousel |”Be STEAM!” project
The construction of the CAROUSEL integrates the subject of mathematics: here the goal is to teach the students compliance with the rules, calculating, counting, logical thinking; modeling; studying geometrical properties and the relationship between plane and space; estimation, measurement, editing; and also to help the students discover analogies and symmetries, and learn the need for accurate work.
The rotating carousel is driven by an electromotor consisting of a D size battery, a magnet and copper wire. On the top of the carousel there is a colourable geometrical paper form. Even the slightest inaccuracy affects the performance of the carousel, hence the toy requires a high degree of precision from the team. The CAROUSEL is part of a model board where, together with the FERRIS WHEEL and the BALLERINA, it forms the STEAM Amusement Park.
